Running or jogging is a great way to exercise. Doing so regularly can really improve your health, reducing the risk of conditions like Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease as well as keeping your weight under control.  It’s even a great way to relieve stress, giving your mood a boost, and what’s more it doesn’t cost a penny.  But for someone who feels a bit out of shape or has never run before, this can be a scary thought.

The NHS Couch to 5K app has been really popular since it’s launch a couple of years ago. It’s free to download and is designed to get you off the sofa gradually, working you up to running 5K or for half an hour in just 9 weeks. It works by setting small achievable goals over three sessions per week. Because it’s designed for beginners, each week you will build on your running ability, boosting confidence in your own self achievement.

So why not give it go? Get some friends together and set a challenge, or challenge yourself and enjoy some time alone exploring more of Birmingham by foot.
